Eligibility to apply

 

An applicant may be an Australian citizen, permanent resident or non-Australian citizen.  Visa holders whether that be temporary, provisional or permanent must hold a valid visa that permits them to work in Australia.

Further information about eligibility to work in Australia and related matters is on the Department of Immigration and Border Protection website and the South Australian government Immigration SA website.

For information about Work Visas (Persons without Australian Residency) and employment in the Public Service can be found in the Determination 1 of the Commissioner for Public Sector Employment.

Applicants can check their work rights validity using the visa entitlement verification online.

 

 
 

Writing your application

 

Your application is an opportunity to demonstrate your skills, experience and abilities to a selection panel.  The panel uses applications to make an initial assessment and decide which applicants warrant further consideration.

 


 

Addressing the selection criteria

 

You will need to demonstrate how your skills and experience meet each of the essential and/or desirable selection criteria by providing relevant examples for each.  

 

 

 

Unless the advertisement says otherwise, your application should contain:


A cover letter demonstrating your suitability for the role against the selection criteria

 

Your Curriculum Vitae or Resume, which should include:

  • name, address and telephone contact numbers
  • current role title
  • education details
  • employment history (at least over the past 10 years) and other relevant experience
  • three current referees (include their names, role titles and telephone numbers) - one of your referees should be your current manager.

Some agencies may also require applicants to complete an employment declaration and before commencing employment a criminal history check may be undertaken.
